ABOUT APT SCHOOL FOR DOGS

Originally established in 2002 by Polly Thomas, the APT School For Dogs has been operated by the current owner Louise Meakin since 2017.  The APT Training method is based on building a positive relationship with your dog. to ensure they are friendly and approachable with both other dogs and people. We have a range of training courses suitable for dogs from puppy to experienced working dogs and can supplement basic training with more advanced skills such as Scentwork or UK Dog Sport. Our aim is for your dog to reach his full potential by challenging him both physically and mentally and building his relationship with you.

We run our training through a praise and reward system. This ensures that both the dogs and their owners are having fun together.

Our Motto

Our training motto is 'Train his brain as often as his legs'. This means owning a dog that is alert, agile and ready to learn with you.

Friendly Dog

Through our specifically developed training your dog will safely interact with other dogs and people.

Louise Meakin

Louise has been training dogs for over 10 years, originally for APT Training before taking over the business in 2017. During this time Louise has developed a brilliant training schedule that ensures there is gradual yet definite progress between classes. The classes always remember the basic learning therefore ensuring the dogs and owners maintain their unique , well trained relationship..

Louise has always had dogs, right from being a child there were always dogs in the family home.  Louise’s passion for dog training started with a German Shepherd called Samson, named after the first German Shepherd Louise met as a child at school.  Louise knew Samson was going to be a big dog and wanted to be confident she could handle him both on and off the lead.  Louise and Samson has such a great time that her and Samson started doing Working Trials, and Samson won the Slingsby Trophy during a Working Trial holiday.  Samson came first and achieved CDex (this means Companion Dog, this is the first test in Working Trials).  This spurred Louise on to do more.

Louise has since had more, but equally as amazing German Shepherds, called Delilah and Dexter.

During her dog training career Louise has achieved the following qualifications

CPD Standards Office Dog FIrst Aid & Emergency Canine Care Qualification

The Kennel Club Certified Working Trial Judge

UK Dog Sport Trainer

Scentwork UK Trainer
